Alien Cafe. Welcome to Alien Cafe. A place for every traveller in the musical multiverse to relax and chill out. So come on in, take the weight off your feet and order up one of those Pan-galactic Gurgle-blasters. I'm on my third right now as I write this post so please excuse any typos! A few weeks ago I was happily hanging out in cyberland looking for new music when I stumbled quite accidentally on Alien Cafe. As a lover of anything alien I was naturally intrigued to take a listen. I'm glad I did because this album is quite simply magical, as well as utterly alien. After downloading the album and repeated listening I have to admit I've become a huge fan. So, being a true believer in the existence of all things alien and paranormal, I channeled Fox Mulder and started my investigation. So, just who is Alien Cafe and how did they slip in under our radar with their brilliant debut release Chloe Says...? I put that question along with several others to their fearless leader, Ufo Walter. “The project started as a drum and bass live project in the early 90s, with our drummer Christian "Zecke" Willeczelek and me on bass and electronics”, explains Ufo. “Later, singer Nikola Materne aka Sphere joined in and we recorded our first album under the name Alien Drum And Bass Foundation. Later we decided to change our name to Alien Cafe because I liked the idea of a place for every traveller in the musical multiverse” Musically, Chloe Says... is a multi-culture meeting place with elements of electro-bossa, chill-out jazz, and pop all melded into one highly enjoyable debut release. “We all have different musical backgrounds and modern urban music allows a lot of experimental headroom” says Ufo, “I love simple melodies and complex grooves, our singer Sphere is a wonderful storyteller and our drummer "Zecke" is a true rhythm maniac. My job as a producer was to bring it all together. I invited all kinds of different session musicians and it was fun to see how hip hop, bossa nova, techno, jazz and elevator music came together”. Before producing Chloe Says... producer and musician Ufo Walter performed produced and arranged for artists such as Marla Glen, Buddy Miles, Randy Hansen, Caught In The Act and Alex Oriental Experience to name just a few. Co-producer Christian Willeczelek lives and works as an active studio and live drummer in Munster, Germany. I’ve enjoyed this album enormously and have been playing tracks in my live downtempo sets as well as an upcoming mixed set for Below Zero. My personal favorite songs are “A Letter For You” “Samba Triste” and the beautiful “Veil Of The Sunlight”. For me Chloe Says... is one of this years most original and enjoyable lounge-chill-electronica releases. Great work guys, now beam me up! Chloe Says... is released on Blue Flame Records, www.blueflame.com The album is available on iTunes and Amazon. You can also find them on MySpace at, www.myspace.com/aliencafe
