Tracey Thorn is best known as one half of the duo “Everything But The Girl.” For twenty years she was the voice behind the amazing band, but disappeared from the scene for some time while partner Ben Watt continued on with his work. In that time she raised their two children, twin daughters born in 1998.
With the exception of the release “Damage” with Tiefschwarz’s, Tracey has been virtually silent… but now she is back where she belongs, singing. She is “Out of the Woods” and we are thankful for it! With the help of several collaborators she releases her second solo album 25 years after the first. She brings back her mellow, melodic switches along with some folk, pop, experimental sounds. The voice that is so sad but at the same time makes you so happy, Thorn’s tracks on the album pick up as if she never left us at all.
“A-Z” is a great story that hits close to home for Tracey. The funky and drifting sounds of “East” and “Its All True” remind us of the influence from the last two EBTG albums that had a fusion of drum’n’bass. For all you EBTG and Tracey fans out there, she is “Out of the Woods” and it’s like she never left us. Welcome back Tracey.
