 Nashville’s Cortney Tidwell has quietly spread her name, but not only in the indie rock and singer songwriter business. Her debut album ‘Don’t Let Stars Keep Us Tangled Up’ in 2007, plenty of guest performances, live tours and stunning remixes of her songs made her unique voice instantly recognizable. Her latest album ‘Boys’ released in June 2009 once again inspires musicians to reinterpret and develop her songs in an electronic setting.
“It seems there's a shortage of girls in my life. It began when I was a child: I was obsessed with music, and rock and roll’s bombarded with boys, but girls weren’t fussed over it so much. So I positioned myself with the boys. They played instruments and talked about rock and roll, and all I wanted to talk about was music. It’s still the same today, boys everywhere I look. I even gave birth to two of them.” Cortney Tidwell’s debut full length "Don't Let Stars Keep Us Tangled Up" came out of nowhere: its avishing guitar pyrotechnics, brittle electronic excursions, intimate torch songs and a duet with Lambchop’s Kurt Wagner served as context for Tidwell’s spectacular vocals and ensured critics adored the record. She has toured with Silver Jews and Andrew Bird, played shows with Martha Wainwright and Grizzly Bear, and collaborated with Fink for his Sideshow project.
Following Cortney's appearance on the Sideshow album we're thrilled to welcome her to Aus for a full single. Will fell in love with 'Palace', after hearing Cortney's soft-more album 'Boys' and asked City Slang if he could remix it. He wanted the power of the song and melody to be left to breathe and has added no more than drums, bass and some careful flashes of melody. City Slang loved the remix and Will suggested that he release it on Aus.… we thought Michel Cleis would perfectly compliment the hypnotic, melodic beauty of the original and he has reframed 'Palace' perfectly for the dancefloor.
